Make your classroom as dynamic as the world around us
Today's share is a neat little clip that, in a couple of minutes, raises many serious issues for the future of today's students. We need to ask ourselves this: Is the way we are preparing our students today, valid for their future?
A great summary of the changing nature of teaching and learning. For teacher's, I think it's just a constant struggle to be current and to help balance 'traditional' learning for assessments like exams with innovative and creative thinking.
It is a great clip :o) I agree, the balance is tough - especially when we work to deadlines and mandated inclusions. I think it has to do with changing our mindset as a school. Would love to hear how others feel?
Its funny how this film deals with ideas that were talked about over 20 years ago. Nothing has changed ... except Australia's educational standards are slipping. Why? Maria is right: teachers face pressures to work with traditional systems and be expected to be innovative. Kids have a fixation on technology and social media. The challenges we face to engage students meaningfully are enormous. Should we as teachers be supporting each other, share expertise, be professionally encouraging & discuss issues & work on solutions??
Supporting each other is key. There's big need for more time to have collegial, solutions-focused discussion. Our results with the MLM this year indicate how valuable that is.
